Why did you choose a STEM profession?
Was your interest in STEM encouraged?
I studied chemical engineering and a master’s degree in business. I got a Project Management Professional certificate too.
I worked for Ica fluor Daniel, involved in hydrocarbon projects for 2 years.
Later, I worked in a Mexican oil & gas company, Petroleos Mexicanos, in different areas, from project evaluation, portfolio management and strategic planning.
I chose an engineering profession because I really like chemistry, math, physics, and the way to apply these sciences to creative problem-solving, data analysis and communication in an overview of chemical fields.
My parents and my teachers encouraged my interests in a STEM profession because they knew how much I liked chemistry, math and physics and how I really enjoyed being involved in problem-solving projects.

How was your educational/university experience? Do you have any memorable experiences to share?
Yes, there are a lot of memorable experiences to share…
I was president of the Student Council and had a lot of adventures organizing all kind of meetings, congresses, and parties. For fund-raising, we needed to sell roses, chocolates and even serenades on San Valentine’s day!! Finally, we reached our goal, and the congress and our meetings were a success.
Where do you work?
What would you do during a typical day at work? What do you enjoy most about your job?
I work for the national oil and gas company in Mexico, Petroleos Mexicanos. I am responsible of Pemex Business Plan and ensuring alignment of the company to the corporate strategy, including surrounding analysis and hydrocarbon long term supply and demand scenarios for oil, gas, and fuel markets.
In a typical day, I must interact and negotiate with very different kinds of people, even the CEO of the company, General Directors, colleagues, subordinates, etc. both administrative and operative people in multidisciplinary teams, because the objective of my job is to reach consensus in the way the company would go and to obtain the correct deliverables required for the strategic planning process through all the company, on time.
I really enjoy problem-solving issues and to reach the consensus with the different areas.
What are your plans and aspirations for the future?
I would love to continue working in my area, making improvements and show my colleagues that there is always a different way to reach the goals and I wish to make a difference for my country.
What do you like to do outside of work? What are your passions and hobbies?
My passions are to be with my family, my dogs and to exercise outdoors.
I enjoy traveling, nature and going to new places, too,
What advice would you give to other young girls and women who plan to pursue a STEM career?
To keep up with the hard work and that, as women, we can make it, we are really capable and with a high level of commitment.
You must be sure you can do any job you want, even better than a man. “Trust yourself and remember that hard work always pays off ”
